Atkins & Walker Law Obtains a $500,000 Jury Verdict
July 2023: Atkins & Walker Law obtained a $500,000 jury verdict in a medical malpractice case in Farmington, New Mexico. Atkins & Walker Law pursued a medical malpractice suit against a hand surgeon, Jason Adams, M.D., at Adams Plastic Surgery, for cutting a nerve in the patient’s arm during an elbow surgery. As a result, the patient lost sensation in his pinky and ring fingers, lost partial strength in his left hand, and suffered a hand deformity (clawing of his pinky and ring finger). The plaintiff only asked the jury for an award of $300,000 to cover his injuries. Yet, after considering the evidence presented at trial, the jury asked if it could award more than the plaintiff requested, and ultimately determined that the plaintiff’s damages amounted to $500,000. It is the understanding of Atkins & Walker Law that this is the first medical malpractice verdict in favor of an injured patient in almost 50 years in San Juan County.
